A very large portion of my internship was spent giving presentations for the Peer Health Educators on campus. These sexual health presentations cover sexually transmitted infections, healthy relationships, sexual assault, drinking, contraceptive methods, abstinence, and condom demonstrations. Throughout the year I gave these presentations throughout Bulldog Bash week, in Introduction to College Learning classes, in Human Diversity classes, and in dorms and apartments throughout UMD.
Another part of my internship that was interning for Planned Parenthood of MN, ND, SD in the Teen Resource Center. My main responsibility was to hold Teen Resource Center nights on Wednesdays which is when students could come in and ask questions, get resources, hang out etc... There is a lot more about my time spent with Planned Parenthood under "Planned Parenthood".
Another thing that I took part in a lot during the Spring Semester was being an active adult staff for the Planned Parenthood Teen Council. This is further discussed under the "Planned Parenthood" tab.
I helped deliver a De-Stressing workshop to the Health Improvement Program through UMD Wellness Coaching for Staff and Faculty. I gave this presentation with Dori Decker and we discussed easy ways to de-stress during the work hours.
Competency C: Use a variety of methods to implement strategies, interventions, and programs
Sub-competencies: 3. Demonstrate skills needed to develop capacity for improving health status
4. Incorporate demographically and culturally sensitive techniques when promoting programs
5. Implement intervention strategies to facilitate health-related change
My final project for UMD Health Services was creating and implementing the UMD Annual Student Health Fair, you can see more of the process that this took under the tag "Final Project".
